Get a 210 Area Code Phone Number Today

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the number of area codes. There are currently 27 area codes used to service the “Lonestar State.” The only state that uses more area codes is California, but the growing population in Texas means more overlays are likely coming.

Area code 210 is primarily used in San Antonio and its suburbs for landlines, SMS messaging, and cell phone dialing. Roughly 1.75 million people are currently living in the 210 service area. The high concentration of residents means that getting a 210 can be tricky unless you know where to look.

About San Antonio

San Antonio might not be the capital city of Texas, but it’s just as important from a historical perspective. The major city of San Antonio is one of the most fought-over cities on the North American continent.

The Texas Revolution featured several crucial battles (including the infamous Battle of the Alamo) that would forever change Texas, the United States, and Mexico. Nearly 200 years have passed since these legendary battles, and San Antonio has grown into one of the biggest cities in the country.

Even though San Antonio isn’t the capital city of Texas, it’s home to capital city-sized attractions. From the famed San Antonio Riverwalk to The Alamo, it’s easy to argue the fact that the 210 area code, although small it may be, covers more than a few historic Texas sites. If you’re looking for fun, the 210 area code is easily one of the best places in Texas to visit.

Spend a day or two at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and then head to SeaWorld San Antonio or indulge in an adventure as you explore the underground treasures tucked away inside the Natural Bridge Caverns.

History lovers will also find quite a bit to do in the 210 area code, including touring The Alamo mission or experiencing a ranger-led tour of the 18th-century San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.

Where Is the 210 Service Area?

Interestingly enough, the 210 area code came about from a split from the nearby 512 area code, which covers the Texas capital city of Austin. At the time, the 512 area code covered all of Central and South Texas, including San Antonio, Corpus Christi, McAllen, and Brownsville.

However, in 1992, the 210 area code was created and served phone numbers in the San Antonio area and throughout most of the Hill Country and the Rio Grande Valley.

Even though San Antonio was the more prominent city then, the 512 area code was reserved for Austin since it was already tied to numerous government-related phone numbers.

And, even though the 210 area code was later split into three due to rapid population growth, it retained its coverage of Bexar County and the city of San Antonio.

It wasn’t until relatively recently, in 2017, that it became necessary to introduce a new area code to help serve San Antonio-area phone numbers.

The 726 area code was used as an overlay for the 210 area code, now sharing coverage of San Antonio and a few surrounding cities such as Schertz, St. Hedwig, Converse, and Cross Mountain.

The 210 area code serves 91% of Bexar County, the 17th-largest county in the United States. This means that the 210 area code serves, in total, about 1.8 million people in the region throughout Bexar County as well as Atascosa, Comal, Guadalupe, and Medina counties.

San Antonio is the biggest city in the 210 service area with a population of 1,327,407 residents, but here are a few of the other large cities that also use it:

  • Schertz
  • Universal City
  • Converse
  • Cibolo
  • Live Oak
  • Leon Valley
  • Elmendorf
  • Helotes
  • Alamo Heights
  • Castle Hills
  • Kirby
  • Macdona

The History of 210

How Can You Get a 210 Area Code?

Trying to get a specific area code is probably easier than you might think. You have multiple options for getting a 210 area code. The problem is that not all of them are guaranteed to work and come with undesirable side effects.

You should be able to see pretty clearly which option is the best, but here are the different ways that you can get a 210 area code

Speak With Your Phone Service Provider

Changing the area code for a phone number is a fairly common request. People constantly move and want to update their area code to reflect their new surroundings. Phone service providers can’t simply update the area code, so they’ll have to assign you a new number.

However, it’s not difficult, and most providers will do it for free. You can just call them, ask for a 210 area code, and they’ll try their best to help you.

The biggest issue with choosing this method is that it won't guarantee it’ll work. The 210 area code needed to split twice within its first five years of service.

Twenty years later, the 726 area code was created as an overlay since the 210 area code ran out of available numbers. For example, according to the North American Numbering Plan, both Terrell Hills and Olmos Park can be attached to a 210 or a 726 area code.

It’s improbable that your phone service provider will have any 210 phone numbers open. You’ll almost certainly be assigned a 726 area code instead.

Even if you can secure a 210 area code, you’ll permanently lose access to your current number. You’ll only have your new number now, which means updating your contacts and online accounts. That’s a lot of sacrifices just for a specific area code.

Buy a New Phone in San Antonio

The next option is to buy a phone whenever you’re in San Antonio. Cell phones are assigned their area code based on where they are purchased and set up

It’s how your current number was assigned its area code. You could get a 210 area code by traveling to San Antonio, buying a phone, and setting it up while you’re there.

It shouldn’t be difficult to see the glaring flaw with this plan. First, this operation will likely cost you a lot of money in travel expenses, especially if you aren’t even close to the Central time zone. Then, you have to calculate the costs of a new phone and how much it would be to add it to your service plan.

You can expect to spend a few hundred dollars at the very least. Even worse, you’ll likely be given a 726 area code instead since it has way more available numbers.

You can contact your service provider and specifically request a 210 area code. They may be able to meet your needs. However, you would now have to juggle two different phones.

That’s twice the monthly bill, twice the intruding calls, and twice the charging responsibilities. Having one phone is more than enough responsibility. Do you want another one?

Download the Burner App

We saved the best option for last, and that’s to download the Burner app. It’s the only guaranteed way to get a 210 area code. It’s the first thing you’ll do after downloading the app.

Once you enter 210 into the prompt window, you’ll receive a list of randomly generated numbers. You’ll get to pick which one you want and be given access within a few minutes. It’s just that simple.

You won’t lose access to your current number. You won’t have to make travel arrangements to another city, and you won’t have to carry around two phones. You can use both your current number and your 210 number from your device.

Anytime someone calls or texts your Burner number, it will be rerouted through Burner and transferred to your phone. Two phone numbers with one cell phone. It doesn’t get much more convenient than that.

Best of all, you’ll be free to drop your number when you no longer need it. If you need a different area code, you can “burn” your 210 number and get another one.

You can cancel your account anytime if you don’t need a second number anymore. Neither option listed above offers that same level of freedom.

The Takeaway

San Antonio is one of the most historically significant cities in Texas. The intense battles that raged there nearly two centuries ago were instrumental in shaping the future of Texas, the U.S., and Mexico.

The 210 area code wasn’t around during these battles, but it’s also a part of San Antonio. If you’re looking to expand your business into the greater San Antonio area, you will need a 210 area code.

The options above are your best shot at getting a 210 area code. However, it should be clear that the best method is to download Burner.

It’s the only guaranteed way to get a 210 area code and has no downsides. You can have an authentic “Alamo City” area code in a few minutes and keep it as long as you want.

Visit Burner today to learn more about how it works and start your free seven-day trial. You’ll be fitting in with the San Antonians in no time and won’t even need a ten-gallon hat or spurred cowboy boots to do it.
