Senior Platform Developer

We are looking for a Senior Platform Developer to join a small, committed technical team at Ad Hoc Labs, makers of the Burner app. We empower people to take control over their identity and privacy by giving them fully functional, powerful, and reliable second phone numbers.

As a Senior Platform Developer, you will be writing code that has the ability to deliver user value in every deployment. You will be implementing new features, improving application performance and reliability, and helping define and grow the platform that our services are based on. Since we are a small team, you will be close to the product and have the ability to make a huge impact. You will also have the opportunity to learn new technologies and contribute directly to the development of a product millions of people rely on to help protect their privacy.

Responsibilities INCLUDE:

  • Own technical specification and development of new product features

  • Leverage cutting edge technologies to efficiently ship new code

  • Collaborate with team to develop new microservices

  • Ensure timely and smooth deployments to production

  • Share on-call duties with the rest of the dev team


  • Proficient in Java and/or Scala

  • Experience with functional programming in Java/Scala or another purely functional language

  • Experience working with TDD as part of CI/CD

  • Familiar with Akka

  • Comfortable employing common architectural patterns to build out production grade APIs and web services

  • Practical knowledge of relational databases at scale (e.g. postgres)

  • Able to collaborate with remote and on-site team members

  • Experience using AWS in production and at scale

Nice to Haves:

  • Familiarity with Rabbit or other queuing systems

  • Understanding of other types of data stores, including Redis and Cassandra or data warehouses such as Redshift

  • Familiarity with Elastic Beanstalk, RDS, or containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Familiarity with Mobile platforms (iOS, Android)

  • Contributions to open source projects
